Third-Year Fellow Emily Podany Receives Conquer Cancer Merit Award at the ASCO Quality Care Symposium

Congratulations to third-year fellow Dr. Emily Podany, who was selected for the Conquer Cancer Merit Award at the ASCO Quality Care Symposium. This award will provide funding for her research project and a travel grant to attend the ASCO Quality Care Symposium from 9/27-9/28/2024 in San Francisco, CA, where she will present a poster.

She was selected for this award for her quality improvement project, “Improving the OncotypeDX ordering process in patients with ER+ HER2- early-stage breast cancer: A longitudinal QI project.” OncoType DX is a 21-gene recurrence score assay that helps determine whether patients with early-stage hormone-receptor positive, HER2 negativebreast cancer would benefit from chemotherapy

Under the mentorship of Dr. Andrew Davis and Dr. Cynthia Ma, Emily spearheaded a project to improve the OncotypeDX order process. With her efforts, she successfully improved the time from OncotypeDX specimen collection to delivery. Importantly, the percentage of patients with OncotypeDX results available at the time of their first medical oncology office visit went from 50% in August 2023 to nearly 100% currently after the process changes.

Emily, we are so proud of you!
