The Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine is proud to announce that second-year fellow, Giulia Petrone, M.D., has been selected by the American Society of Hematology (ASH) to participate in the 2024 Research Training Award for Fellows (RTAF). She is one of 17 outstanding fellows across the country selected for this highly competitive award, and one of two fellows selected within the fellowship program. Giulia will receive $70,000 in funding to carry out a hematology research project throughout the program’s duration from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025. She will also receive a $1,000 travel stipend the year after the award to attend the ASH annual meeting.
Giulia’s research explores clonal hematopoiesis as a precursor to myeloid neoplasms and investigates novel strategies to prevent progression to malignancy. In her project, she will evaluate the role of CDK4/6 inhibitors in mitigating expansion of clones. She is being mentored by Dr. Kelly Bolton, M.D., Ph.D.
“I am humbled to have been selected for the ASH RTAF alongside my friend (and co-fellow), Stefan! The support and guidance from our fellowship program and mentors have been crucial in reaching this milestone,” Giulia adds.
Please join us in congratulating Giulia!
