Emily Podany, 3rd-Year Fellow Publishes Study on Racial Disparities in Metastatic Breast Cancer in JAMA Network Open

A recent multi-institutional cohort study led by Emily Podany, MD, a fellow in the Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program and Fellow Wellness Leader at the Washington University (WashU) Division of Oncology, alongside senior author Andrew Davis, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine at WashU, has been published in JAMA Network Open. The study, titled Racial Differences in ctDNA Profiles, Targeted Therapy Use, and Outcomes in Metastatic Breast Cancer,” explores critical disparities in cancer treatment and outcomes.

Findings from the study suggest that clinical inequities persist alongside genomic differences, highlighting the need for researchers to address both factors when designing future studies and interventions. These insights are crucial for closing the outcomes gap between Black and White patients with metastatic breast cancer (mBC).
